The Chogoria route is arguably the most magnificent and recommended ascent route to the summit of Mount Kenya. It is the driest route up the mountain and the walk beside the Gorges Valley truly spectacular.
The descent by the Sirimon route takes one through some beautiful forest tracks and completes the traverse of the mountain.
Accommodation on this hike is 2 nights in mountain huts and 2 nights camping. Nonetheless, if you prefer to camp you can do so on all nights on the mountain.

Leave from your pick up hotel or residence on an early morning and drive via the great northern highway arriving Chogoria town in 4 hours. It is from this place you will meet the rest of your climbing crew (porters) and proceed with the driving through thick rain forest for about 1 hour. Check in the park and all the formalities involved, note that the park entrance fees are only payable via M-pesa or credit card. Have lunch and start trekking through rush forests passing the magnificent Nithi waterfalls proceeding to lake Ellis. Dinner and overnight at your campsite. After having breakfast, leave the camp trekking along a single trail through alpine and moorland vegetation. The trek between the two camps is a no water fetching point, ensure you have enough water about 3 litres from Nithi river. Lunch will have been packed for you. While at Mintos camp, you will explore around the camp to the temple and magnificent gorges valley views and of of lake Michaelson. Dinner and overnight at your campsite.

Predawn attempt of the summit starts at 0300hrs and you hike for about three hours up to point Lenana (4,985m), the hiker’s summit, arriving there for the African sunrise. Descend Shipton`s camp for breakfast.
After breakfast, begin a 5-hour descent via Mackinder`s valley to the Old Moses camp. (3,300m) The descent is gentle and it offers ample time to enjoy fascinating scenery which includes the moorlands before reaching the camp.

On this final day, leave the camp trekking down on a paved road through the rush forest with high chances of spotting wild animals reaching Sirimon park gate in 2 hours. Check out the park and board on your waiting vehicle back to Nairobi or onward destination.
