This carefully designed trip combines an exciting guided trek to the flat-topped summit of Mount Ololokwe with spectacular mountain scenery, overnight camping, authentic Samburu culture, and a wildlife safari in the famous Samburu ecosystem.
Your adventure begins in Nanyuki, taking you north through the dramatic landscapes of Laikipia and Isiolo counties. Mount Ololokwe—also revered locally as Ol Donyo Sabache—is one of northern Kenya's most striking landmarks, offering breathtaking panoramic views across the sprawling acacia plains.
Day 1: Tackle the rugged terrain and ancient elephant trails on your guided ascent to the mountain plateau. Settle in for a peaceful evening, a stunning African sunset, and an unforgettable night of camping under the stars.
Day 2: Wake up to a magical Mount Ololokwe sunrise before descending back to the base. Continue your journey into the Samburu National Reserve for an afternoon game drive along the Ewaso Ng'iro River.

Tour Itinerary
Expand allDay 1: Nanyuki – Mount Ololokwe Hike & Summit Camping
Hiking: Approximately 4–6 hours depending on pace
Your adventure begins in the early morning with a pickup from your hotel in Narobi. The drive takes you through the scenic landscapes of Laikipia and Isiolo, with the scenery gradually changing from the highlands to the dry, rugged landscapes of northern Kenya.
Upon arrival at the Mount Ololokwe, you will meet your local mountain guide and the support crew. A short briefing will be conducted covering the hiking route, safety precautions, pace and mountain etiquette. You will begin the exhilarating hike up the mountain, navigating ancient trails and indigenous forests that cling to the escarpment. Reaching the vast, flat plateau at the summit.
Upon reaching the summit, you will settle into the designated campsite and have time to rest as you enjoy the panoramic views.
After dinner, enjoy an evening under the stars before retiring to your tent for the night.

Overnight: Camping on Mount Ololokwe
Day 2: Mount Ololokwe – Samburu National Reserve
Wake up early to catch a magnificent sunrise over the northern lowlands before enjoying a hot breakfast on the summit. Afterward, you will begin your descent down the mountain trails to rejoin your safari vehicle at the base.
From here, you will drive into the renowned Samburu National Reserve, where you will embark on an afternoon game drive along the palm-lined banks of the Ewaso Ng'iro River. Keep your camera ready as you search for the unique "Samburu Special Five" which include the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, gerenuk, and Somali ostrich alongside elephants, big cats, and other native wildlife. As daylight fades, you will head to your tented camp or lodge for dinner and a relaxing overnight stay.

Day 3: Samburu Morning Game Drive, Cultural Village Visit & Return to Nanyuki
Depart for an early morning game drive. The cooler morning hours provide an excellent opportunity to explore the reserve and search for wildlife while many animals are active.
Drive along the river and through the surrounding plains, keeping an eye out for elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and other wildlife.
You will also have an opportunity to appreciate the dramatic scenery of the Samburu ecosystem, including the dry savannah, rocky hills and riverine vegetation.
